On Belgrade on 12th February 2011 3rd State Beekeeping Fair was held-the fair of beekeeping, innovations, honey and honey products with 75 participants from Serbian and from abroad. The fair was opened by the Minister of Trade Slobodan Milosavljevic who pointed out that the fair has educational character besides exhibiting character. The president of the Alliance of Beekeeping Organizations of Serbia (SPOS), Rodoljub Zivadinovic, said at the opening that Serbia was the country where honey of high quality was produced and that all produced amounts could be exported abroad. Representatives of World Beekeepers association Apimondia announced that in 2012 in Belgrade, Beekeepers Symposium would be held and it would help develop beekeeping in Serbia.
In the organization of the Assembly of Jagodina members of beekeeping association “Pomoravlje” and the association “Pcelar” from Bagrdan, with the AgroLib team representative visited the fair. A very interesting lecture was held by the president of Apimondia, Gilles Ratia, on the possible causes of mass weakening and disappearance of beekeeping associations happening all around the world! Although the exact cause is not known, it is considered that the main cause is the excessive use of pesticides in agricultural production. Gilles stressed the importance of bees and beekeeping for agriculture and biodiversity. Apart from harmful effects of chemicals, the possible cause of the disappearance of some beekeeping associations is the lack of adequate food. Fields of flowers are replaced with fields of corn whose pollen does not contain enough proteins which are essential for the development of bees.
Apart from many innovations that could be seen in the fair, a beekeeper who lived near Jagodina, presented his innovation Malenovic’s Cage, Malenovic Radosav.
